Vega de San Mateo is a municipality town on the north of Gran Canaria. 800 m above sea level. It has about 8.000 inhabitants. It is located about 22 km from the coast, 22 km from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 35 km from the airport and 70 km from Maspalomas. Very good infrastructure. Sparsely tourism.

The municipality of Vega de San Mateo celebrates several festivities during the year. The most importan is "las fiestas en honor a San Mateo", Patron Saint of the municipality. They are celebrated on the 21st of September. They also organise a horse race and a major livestock fair.
