Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is a city located on the north of the island of Gran Canaria and its capital, she is also the capital from the province of Las Palmas, which consists of the islands Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. With a population of nearly 400.000 inhabitants is she the most populous city of the Canary Islands.

The highlights of the city are, the seaports, the beautiful beach "Las Canteras" with a length of approx. 3 km and its promenade, the old town Vegueta with its cathedral "Santa Ana" and the street Calle Mayor de Triana, the  buildings from around 1.900 with spanish architectural elements, typical of this time, mark this pedestrian shopping street. Another urban beach the "Alcaravaneras" offers to bath and fun.

She offers, apart from the concert house "Auditorio Alfredo Kraus" close to the beach, and the theater "Pérez Galdós", all the cultural, sporting and culinary amenities of a big city.

The famous carnival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is the bigest event of the town and the island, culminating in the procession "Grand Cavalgata".

The weather in Gran Canaria is often cloudy (sparsely rain and not cold), this phenomenon is called "Panza de Burro" (donkey stomach). This is the reason why the majority of tourists are in the south of the island. However, according to the weather department of Syracuse University (USA), is she the city with the best climate in the world.

Within the urban area is an 18-hole golf course "Las Palmeras Golf", the largest football stadium for 33.000 spectators, which is home from the football club, "UD Las Palmas", and the sports hall, "Centro Insular de Deportes" for more than 5.000 spectators.
